Languages & Communication
Preparing Confident Communicators for a Global Society
Clear and effective communication is essential for success in college, careers, leadership, and everyday life. AURA’s Languages & Communication pillar helps students express their ideas confidently, listen respectfully, evaluate information critically, and communicate effectively with people from different cultures and backgrounds.
Students develop communication skills across the curriculum through reading, writing, speaking, listening, discussion, presentation, research, and collaboration. They learn to organize their thoughts, support their ideas with evidence, adapt their messages for different audiences, and participate thoughtfully in academic and community conversations.
Language acquisition provides students with opportunities to study languages such as Arabic and Spanish while developing greater cultural awareness and an appreciation for diverse perspectives. Learning another language challenges students to think in new ways and prepares them to participate more fully in an increasingly interconnected world.
Communication education at AURA extends beyond vocabulary and grammar. Students learn to communicate with clarity, empathy, confidence, and integrity whether they are writing an academic paper, delivering a presentation, participating in a group project, conducting research, or speaking with members of their community.
Students are prepared to:
- Communicate ideas clearly and confidently in written, spoken, and visual forms.
- Develop proficiency in an additional language.
- Strengthen academic writing, research, presentation, and public-speaking skills.
- Listen carefully and engage respectfully with different viewpoints.
- Evaluate sources and use information responsibly.
- Collaborate effectively in teams and multicultural environments.
- Build cultural awareness and an international perspective.
- Use communication to advocate, lead, solve problems, and serve others.
Through language study and purposeful communication, AURA develops articulate, open-minded, and culturally aware of students who are prepared to connect with and contribute to a global community.
