At American University Research Academy (AURA), education extends beyond the classroom. We believe that some of the most meaningful lessons students experience come through opportunities to participate, collaborate, serve, create, lead, and build lasting relationships with others. Activities at AURA are an important part of the overall student experience, complementing our academic curriculum while supporting the intellectual, social, spiritual, creative, and personal development of every student.
Through school activities, special events, collaborative experiences, celebrations, educational opportunities, and community engagement, AURA students are encouraged to become active participants in their school community. These experiences give students opportunities to discover new interests, develop their individual talents, strengthen friendships, and create meaningful memories throughout their high school years.
Developing the Whole Student
AURA’s approach to education recognizes that academic achievement is only one part of preparing young people for college, careers, and life. Students also need opportunities to develop confidence, leadership, communication, teamwork, creativity, responsibility, and interpersonal skills.
Participating in school activities allows students to interact with their classmates and teachers in different environments and situations. They learn how to work with others, contribute ideas, accept responsibility, solve problems, and appreciate the talents and perspectives of the people around them.
These experiences help students grow not only as learners, but also as individuals.
Building a Stronger School Community
AURA’s intentionally close-knit learning environment provides opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to know one another and build meaningful relationships.
School activities help strengthen that sense of community. Whether students are participating in an educational activity, celebrating a special occasion, attending an event, working together on a project, or simply enjoying time with their classmates, these moments help create a school environment where students can feel connected, supported, valued, and encouraged to participate.
We want students to look back on their years at AURA and remember not only what they learned in their classes, but also the friendships they developed, the experiences they shared, the challenges they overcame, and the people who encouraged them along the way.
Leadership, Character, and Responsibility
Student activities also provide opportunities to put important life skills into practice. Working as part of a group teaches students that their decisions and actions affect others. Taking responsibility for a project or activity helps develop accountability. Participating in new experiences encourages confidence and independence.

Faith in Action and Service to Others
As a faith-based educational community, AURA encourages students to recognize that their talents, knowledge, and abilities can be used in service to others.
Student life provides opportunities to practice the Christian values emphasized throughout the AURA educational experience—including compassion, respect, integrity, humility, service, fellowship, and responsibility.
Through their interactions with classmates, faculty, families, and the broader community, students are encouraged to understand that character is demonstrated through everyday actions: how we treat others, how we respond to challenges, how we serve those around us, and how we use our individual gifts.
Creating a Meaningful High School Experience
High school should be a time of academic discovery, but it should also be a time when students discover more about themselves.
AURA activities provide students with opportunities to explore their interests, try something new, express themselves creatively, develop friendships, strengthen their confidence, and discover abilities they may not have realized they possessed.
These experiences complement AURA’s rigorous academic preparation by creating a balanced educational environment in which students have opportunities to learn, participate, create, serve, lead, and grow.
At AURA, student life is not separate from education it is an important part of it. Every activity, relationship, challenge, celebration, and shared experience can become an opportunity for students to grow in knowledge, character, confidence, faith, and purpose.
