Exploring the High School Experience
On April 19, 2025, American University Research Academy (AURA) welcomed students from Bethany School to our campus for a special Open House, giving visiting students an opportunity to explore what AURA offers and experience what high school life can be like in a welcoming, academically focused, and faith-based learning environment.
The Open House was designed to give students more than simply a tour of the campus. It provided an opportunity to step into the AURA experience to learn about our academic programs, meet members of our school community, explore the learning environment, and begin imagining themselves as high school students preparing for college, careers, and their future.
Discovering What High School Can Be
The transition to high school is an important milestone in a student’s educational journey. Visiting AURA gave Bethany students an opportunity to see firsthand how high school can challenge them academically while also helping them grow personally, socially, creatively, and spiritually.
Throughout their visit, students were introduced to an environment where academic excellence, personalized learning, faith, leadership, creativity, and preparation for the future come together as part of the AURA educational experience.
The visit also gave students a glimpse into the greater independence and responsibility that come with high school. They were able to experience a campus designed to encourage curiosity, participation, meaningful relationships, and confidence as students prepare for the next stage of their education.
Exploring the AURA Difference
At AURA, we believe high school should do more than prepare students to pass their classes. It should help young people discover their interests, recognize their abilities, develop strong character, and begin identifying the paths they may want to pursue in college and beyond.
As a faith-based high school serving students in Grades 9–12, AURA combines a challenging academic environment with opportunities for students to develop intellectually, spiritually, socially, and personally.
Our educational experience encourages students to ask questions, think critically, communicate effectively, collaborate with others, and take increasing responsibility for their own learning.
For students beginning to think about their future, an Open House provides an important opportunity to experience these qualities firsthand rather than simply reading about them.
Experiencing the AURA Community
One of the most important parts of visiting a high school is experiencing its community.
AURA strives to provide a close-knit educational environment where students can be known as individuals. Through interactions with faculty, staff, and members of the AURA community, visiting students can begin to understand the importance we place on personal attention, mentorship, respect, encouragement, and meaningful relationships.
For Bethany School students, the April Open House provided an opportunity to experience the environment, share an exciting day with classmates, and discover what awaits them as they prepare to enter high school.
Looking Ahead to the Future
Middle school is a time when students begin making important decisions about high school, college, careers, and the people they hope to become. Experiences such as the AURA Open House can help make those possibilities more tangible.
By welcoming younger students onto our campus, AURA hopes to encourage them to begin thinking confidently about their future: What subjects inspire me? What talents do I want to develop? What career might I pursue? How can I prepare for college? How can I use my education and abilities to serve others?
These are questions that can begin well before the first day of ninth grade.
AURA was delighted to welcome Bethany School in April 2025 and provide its students with an opportunity to explore our campus, experience the high school environment, and discover some of the academic and personal opportunities that await them in the years ahead.
At AURA, an Open House is more than a campus visit; it is an opportunity for students to experience high school, discover new possibilities, and begin imagining their future.
